SERVICES >> Crowns

A crown is used to restore a tooth to its proper size, shape, and appearance. We generally recommend a crown when a tooth is cracked or broken down, and a filling is inadequate. During the first appointment, we prepare the tooth by removing all decay and old filling material. If too little tooth structure is left to hold a crown after the preparation process, we build the tooth up with a special restorative material. We then take a bite impression and send it to the laboratory so that a crown can be custom made. In the meantime, a temporary crown is placed until the permanent crown is made.

During the second appointment, we test the crown to check the fit, contact, color, and bite. We may make adjustments on site, or we may send the crown back to the laboratory for changes. We cement the crown when we are certain that it fits perfectly.
